…out it (as in " I received this and was wondering if you might have a use for it"). Not doing so is tacky and makes the receiver feel less than valuable.
Or some half dead flowers.

You're very tactful. I could argue that moldy strawberries are way worse than that, but I'm not sure what the word would be.
