You're so welcome. I'm guessing that with the first book, Land felt she "should" thank her professor, but she couldn't tell the story she wanted to tell in the second without slamming the woman.

There's a good lesson for writers here about how you have to be careful with your acknowledgments, because critics who read both books will see the discrepancy and may call you out on it.
