You're right: This one definitely cries out for better editing.

As I mentioned in a response to Steffany Ritchie, the *editor* bears the ultimate responsibility for the lack of a disclaimer (in consultation with lawyers, if needed). But the *author* pays the price if the presence or absence of one creates confusion in readers (as it did in my case).
