The plot is so contrived: It would never have "worked" (to the degree that it does at all) had Athena been a normal 27-year-old who wrote on a computer.
Thanks for alerting me to the "Say, you haven't shown this to anyone, have you?" trope. I can't recall having seen it. But now that you've mentioned the device, I bet I'll be seeing it around every literary corner :).
