You are so right about the distinct but equally important contributions of black and Native Americans. I don't get why Zobel Marshall faults Potter for her supposed appropriation of black culture but not Native American when, as you say, a type of trickster is one of their major contributions to North American culture.

I have no hard data to back this up, but I sometimes have the impression that the Brits take anti-black racism more seriously than anti-Native American racism (or maybe just don't get it). That fact sets them apart from the Canadians who (again, it's just my impression) really do get the anti-First Nations racism.
