Yes! This song was was reportedly written partly to foster Italian pride when Italian-Americans faced brutal discrimination. It seems to have worked: I grew up in a heavily Italian part of New Jersey where "Dominick" remains popular to this day among Italian Americans and others.

It's disappointing that Jezebel, with its keen radar for sexism, couldn't show more sympathy for the injustices faced by another group or for a song that, as you say, is a delight.
