Medium has bushwhacked a lot of territory in the blogosphere.

It’s given bloggers a way to get paid for their stories. It’s created a clean, ad-free space for their posts. It’s seamlessly integrated into the platform the Unsplash library of more than five million photos, which makes it easy to upload high-quality royalty-free images.

But Medium trails much of the blogosphere in one respect. It hasn’t embraced live-blogging, the real-time posting of stories about an unfolding event, such as a TV show, a natural disaster, or the tallying of results from around the country on Election night.

Medium potentates know how engaging and live-blogging can be: They’ve given a prominent spot to @LizaDonnelly, a writer and cartoonist for The New Yorker, who has uploaded to Medium her sparkling “live-drawings” of events such as the Academy Awards and the Jan. 6 hearings.

Would Medium benefit from more near-real-time stories? I hope to find out on Medium Day, Aug. 12, when I’ll live-blog highlights…
