This is so well done, Elwood. A related issue that might be worth a separate column is the double standard on sexuality that's always existed for men and women, including male and female candidates: e.g., "She's a slut. He's sowing wild oats."

This can involve different perceptions of male and female candidates who may or may not be LGBTQ. Some of the farthest-right-wing groups in Alabama have tried to taint Gov. Kay Ivey with whisper campaigns implying that she might be a lesbian when a) nobody has ever produced a shred of evidence that she is; and b) so what if she is?
