This is a great story, and Sam and Brenda's experiences were entirely believable to me. As conservative as the South is, its Christian colleges were (and often still are) even more so.

There's one about an hour from where I live where male and female students still must use separate elevators. Add race to that mix and you can see how situations like Sam and Brenda's could result back in the 1970s. I wouldn't be surprised if one like it could still occur today at the college I mentioned.
