There's definitely an opening, and not just because of Gen Z. All the talk now about a "friendship recession" suggests that the loneliness goes beyond one generation.

The challenge, as you say, is adjusting romcoms to new sensibilities. The recent Hulu drama series Fleishman Is in Trouble tried: It was adapted from a novel about dating, post-separation, in the age of apps. It had mixed reviews, perhaps owing to problems with the novel, which I read: a not fully credible plot, hampered by a big point-of-view issue, etc. The series might have worked better if it had taken a more inventive approach to the book and stuck less closely to it than it did.
