That's so interesting, Arpad. I wonder if the CBC and other Canadian news organizations have a policies that limit coverage of mass shootings.
Some news outlets have those policies because, as my article notes, mass shooters seek notoriety and there's a feeling that you encourage them (and copycat killers) by publicizing their crimes. A variation on this is that, for the same reason, some news organizations don't give the killers' names.
But the July 4 massacres were all over the news here, and the Associated Press had a daily news feed called something like "Mass Shootings Update." I certainly understand why you might hesitate to visit the U.S. when the mass killings aren't limited to gun violence but in the recent past have involved events such as a machete attack in Times Square.
