That's a really good point that I thought about while writing this: When does a faddish term or buzzword become a cliche?

From my perspective, it occurs when a term loses its meaning as cliches do. The problem now, as I see it, is that buzz words get overused so fast that they become cliches instantly.

The lag time between the first use of a word and the overuse is shrinking. And there's a judgment call involved, so it can be hard to answer definitively: What's a buzz word and what's a cliche?
