That's a great point about the translation (an issue I often bring up in reviews but didn't here because this review was already 7 minutes).

The translation is especially relevant in this case because the translator has said he had to learn modern Norwegian to translate Fosse. That's so unusual: Publishers usually go for a translator who has deep experience with the language.

I'm guessing that in this case there either weren't a lot of choices or Searls has such a high reputation for the other languages he's translated that Fosse's publisher was willing to take the risk.

Either way, he may not known the language as well as a native speaker would. And I appreciate your giving me an opportunity to bring up a very relevant issue. Thank you!
