That's a good but tough subject. In my experience, when writers try to identify the personality traits of geniuses, they often come up with a list of things like persistence after setbacks. It's certaininly true that, for example, Einstein persisted in that way, but many other scientists were similarly tenacious without achieving breakthroughs like his.
