That interwar period was fascinating in Britain. So many writers were coming into their own but hadn't reached the height of their powers--e.g., Dorothy Sayers--which may help to explain why it has had less attention. One book that deals with it is Mo Moulton’s "The Mutual Admiration Society," which follows Sayers and her Oxford circle through out their lives (it begins in 1912 and covers the following decades). The book is academic and was a bit of a slog for me, but it does give you a sense of the ferment in those years.
