Thanks, Steve. I agree that there's been vast progress. The catch is that it's sometimes progress of the two-steps-forward-one-step-back kind. You'd think, for example, that no contemporary Polish leader would make the kind of comment Walesa did. But Poland (and other European countries) have seen the rise of virulent far-right movements that aim to undo some of the progress by spreading regressive views about women and other groups. It's painful to read about. But I do share your hope that, eventually, more enlightened views will prevail.
