Thanks, Steve. I based this on a book by a woman who grew up in the Deep South, and some of the examples may well have been location and gender-specific.

But to take the "nuclear blast" example: Duck-and-cover drills went on all over the country (the header photo shows students in New York City). I tried to have some fun with this and knew I was taking a risk. People's funny bones are in different places. I appreciate that you read it despite your reservations.
