Thanks, Runa. In some ways, it's a book editor's job to save writers from themselves.

And in this case, the editor could have insisted on an up-front disclaimer about Coulter's sources. Or said, "People in publishing will know who 'Arthur Adler' is and that his accuser went to jail, and as much as you dislike him, you'll look unfair if you don't say that." Coulter could have been better served by her editors, in my view.
