Thanks, Kathy. You'll find a classic definition of opinion vs. perception (one I agree with) at the link below, particularly in its example of "the glass is half full vs. the glass is half empty" as an example of a perception, or how you see or otherwise experience the world. Here's another that I made up:

Fact: Susan Orlean is a writer.

Opinion: Susan Orlean is a good writer.

Perceptions: "Her work shows the influence of the Midwest." Or: "Her work shows the influence of New York. " (It's a question of what you're seeing in it.)
