Thank you so much for pointing out that back then, there were missionaries in many places besides the combat zones. Absolutely! I am in awe of their courage and persistence in the face of challenges vaster than most of us will ever know.

I also appreciate your mentioning that some women turned to missionary work because they saw preaching as a "man's job." I'd add only that even if they hadn't seen it that way, many denominations didn't ordain women until years after the war. Your mother sounds like a remarkable woman.
