Thank you! I knew that many of America's best writers (Roth, Bellow, etc.) were Jewish, but until I counted them up for this story, I hadn't realized what a large proportion of the Nobel laureates were.

Roth could easily have been among them. He was a perennial favorite in the last 20 or so years of his life. My view is: Mazel Tov to all I listed. I've disagreed with many of the Swedish Academy's choices but see all of them as worthy of the honor.
