Thank you! You're "just saying" a lot of things critics see often. One is that once authors have a big hit, they can get away with a poorly written book their editors would never have allowed with the first.

You're also right, as I see it, about how writers can try to ennoble their early suffering when it involved things that have nothing ennobling about them, such as being rejected for food stamps. Your $1200 quote for insurance is appalling but believable.
