Some problems could lie with his co-author (who may be the one who loves "chuckled"). But it's interesting that you mention the limited range. Some critics have noted that Newt doesn't have sex scenes in his books (no doubt because critics might focus on them and expose him to ridicule). But--let's face it--if you exclude a big topic, whether it's sex or anything else, you're limiting yourself.
