She's one of mine, too. I've often thought she might have had a strong shot at a Nobel if the Swedish Academy didn't seem to have such a strong bias in favor of fiction as opposed to nonfiction writers. I've seen Didion's name on lists of candidates for the literature prize but never near the top (as were, say, also-rans like Philip Roth and John Updike).
