"Removed from school libraries"? Yes, either directly or by putting so much pressure on school and other libraries that they take the path of least resistance and just don't stock the books.

You are so right about the unacceptability of denying all kids access to books. A library employee in Florida recently posted on social media a photo of rows of empty shelves the staff had cleared out after a directive from DeSantis they thought that might make them vulnerable to political pushback (though they were later able to put the books back).

That's an example involving a conservative, but libraries (and bookstores) are also facing heavy pressure from liberals on certain books and authors, particularly J.K. Rowling. I'm not on TikTok but read the other day that anyone who praises her work there gets "J.K. Rowling is a transphobe" comments, and I suspect libraries get the same.

It's painful to watch, given that the Happy Potter books turned an entire generation on to reading for fun. Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment on a situation that, I'm afraid, will only get worse as the 2024 elections approach.
