Only certain kinds of writing--e.g., information driven nonfiction. For other types of writing, such as essays and criticism, the freshness and interest of the *perceptions* matter more (and, even there, the quality of the writing matters as much as any research you do). You can read everything ever written by or about Stephen King, but if you don't have something interesting to say, it doesn't matter.
