Love that anecdote. Students howled about some of the choices my student paper made, too.

To my mind, both of our experiences suggest the importance of college papers (and why they need to stay alive): Apart from any writing practice they offer, the best give you good experience in anticipating the real-world decisions you may have to make (e.g., about how to play a story and the reaction your choice could get).
