Katrina is a good parallel. One difference is that many Katrina rescues were by boat while I haven't heard of any of those in Ukraine.

But the situations were very similar in that many Ukrainians stayed in dire situations because they didn't want to leave their pets. It's heartening to hear that one pet can now be evacuated in Nola although, as you say, it was sadly too late for many. Thanks so much for the update on the evacuation policy, which I'd missed.
