It's more my style, too. One thing I also like: In New York City, where I used to live, politicians such as the mayor often lead parades, turning them into campaign stops by another name.

But I've never seen that in a Mardi Gras parade in my town. The spirit is different from that of, say, St. Patrick's Day parades in New York (though I loved those, too).
