It seemed as though you and Shannon were both dignifying people who don't deserve to be called "critics" by calling them that. And I think you have to be really careful about doing that because when you do, you mark down the value of professionals.
The Amazon reader-reviewers are a parallel in the book world. Yes, some can have influence. But if you elevate them to the level of "critics," you're devaluing the work of professional book critics. You also make it harder for readers to know whom to trust.
