It really is outrageous about Thomas. Reporters would be fired if they did some of what he's done, like taking free trips.

Not all of the journalists I've know have the highest standards: I've known some fired for sins like plagiarism, using fake datelines, and being drunk on the job. But as you say, most do try hard to meet a very high standard.
