It really has. Italians--along with the Irish--were one of the two dominant ethnic groups in New Jersey when I lived there. And I regularly saw ferocious displays of Italian pride: The car horns that blared when the Italians won the World Cup were as loud as when the Giants (who were based in NJ) won the Super Bowl.
But while I'd heard a lot about the French Resistance, I knew nothing of the remarkable women--and men--of the Italian Resistance until I read "A House in the Mountains." The recognition that's coming to the partisans is vastly overdue.
