Interesting! My interpretation was: Act in a way consistent with your values. But like you, I'd like to hear what others have to say. My main influence here was an 8th grade English teacher. And like a lot other 8th graders, I may have heard what I thought was a "definitive" interpretation without realizing how many other views of such a passage there could be.
