"Ignorance, racism, misogyny," etc. Yup. I've seen them all. But I live an hour from any large city in an environment that is definitely not urban and haven't seen any reason to expect everyone to be hostile and a danger to anyone not like them. My experience has actually been the opposite, but your experience is credible to me, too, because there's more variation in Alabama than people probably expect.
