I think of that Sopranos episode, too, and was disappointed when a childhood friend who also knows the Pine Barrens told me he thinks it wasn't filmed there.

He said the vegetation in the episode didn't strike him as quite right, and that seemed credible--in part, because our place was very close to what was supposedly the Mafia's favorite dumping ground for bodies: a swampy cranberry bog the bodies would sink into and disappear forever. It was so remote, it would have been very hard to film there. And Hollywood is close to a lot of pinelands the filmmakers might could easily have tried to pass off as ours.
