I might say "middle or working class" here, because in the U.S. "working class" typically implies "lower" or "lower middle." And in my (admittedly limited) circle of Oxbridge-educated friends in the U.K., those who got into Oxford or Cambridge from comprehensives weren't "working class": They were middle class.
