I keep an eye on literary awards outside the U.S., too. The standards often differ from those here and produce more interesting results. My favorite is the Baillie Gifford Prize for nonfiction in the U.K. (formerly the Samuel Johnson Award), which--unlike the Pulitzers--has never steered me wrong.
