I just read in a Vanity Fair anthology that Cormac McCarthy wrote on the down low for his entire life. Even as a young and no-name author, he virtually never did interviews, etc. But he'd no doubt face a lot more pressure if he were starting out in 2023, and you wonder if he could avoid them now.
