I hate dumbing down! And I'm not opposed to sending people to dictionaries.

But I think George Orwell had it right with the basic principles of good writing he laid down in his essay "Politics and the English Language." Orwell didn't write in plain English to dumb anything down, just to be clear, and that's what I try to do.
