I don't read much of it, either. So many sci-fi fans were ravenous for it when I was a book editor that I always assigned the genre to others.
But you might find Sanderson worth reading for the same reason I don't regret reading Colleen Hoover. It's always interesting to try to figure out why some authors become pop-cultural phenomena.
By the way, I hope you're not a big Eva Longoria fan. She stars in a new CNN series I'm writing about in the Pop Culture Shorts column that Eric will probably post soon. I've really liked some of the things CNN has done lately, esp. Navalny and The Murdochs, but Longoria's latest is misguided on almost every level on which a series could be misguided.
