I do it when it might avoid confusion, as in this case: X is a street name for the drug ecstasy, and people who read only the title might take it to mean the writer was on the drug.

But you're right: It does seem to be growing pointless after all these months. Some publications are dropping it, and I'll probably do that soon. Good point about Stellants v. Chrysler.
