I believe it about Saramago.

Another Nobel laureate, V.S. Naipaul, had a level of Grade 5 when I ran the numbers for one of his books a while back. I suspect that's lower than you'd get for other laureates: say, Saul Bellow. But it doesn't make Naipaul less great. I admire both of those novelists.
