I am SO using this word the next time I go back to "Valley of the Dolls" and try to explain its appeal to a new generation of readers. I like trashterpiece almost as much as my all-time favorite literary term, "bonkbuster," which Americans tragically failed to appreciate as much the Brits did and so never really caught on here as it did in the U.K. ("Bonkbuster"=a subgenre of trashterpiece.)
