Ha, I agree that men (and women) often use phrases in a way they see as complimentary but others don't.

Another example is that some men think it's a compliment when they say to a woman, "You write like a man." Trust me, you don't want to use that one unless you know a woman really well and are certain she's one of the few who will like it :).
