Good grief.

I had made the mistake of renting a house to a dancer who simply could not manage her money (or her drugs or her alcohol) and after missing rent a few times, she suggested I start collecting it from her at the club before she could find a chance to blow it.

Good grief. That has to be the most unusual way of collecting rent that I've ever heard of, and I've lived in New York City, where everybody rents.
