"Class" is much worse written than "Maid" in my view, though it has the same quality you mention: Land keeps complaining about people out to get her, often in a cynical and bitter way.

My reading of it is that Land had better editors at Hachette, who reined her in more than those at S&S did. Much appreciate your mentioning the series, which I haven't seen. Thank you!
