Kaitlan Collins / CNN

Every so often, I like to nod to my toddler years in journalism when I was a writer and editor for Glamour and did occasional fashion and beauty articles along with other kinds of stories. But I’m overmatched by CNN’s chief White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins on an issue I face daily: how to survive 90-degree temperatures without looking as though I’d dripped dry by noon.

Collins grew up in steamy Alabama, where I live, and often looks more stylish in hot weather than her television peers. Watch her and you’ll notice three of the ways she does it:

Wear cap sleeves, which are cooler than short sleeves.

Stick to light or bright colors, not navy or black, on the hottest days.

Avoid heavy jewelry.
