Agree on the Economist, Kerry. I sometimes disagree with its politics (and with its book reviews, which are my field).

But it does an excellent job of integrating the text and art on every level. Public speaking is also a good parallel in how whiteboards, Power Points, and other visual aids can add a lot if you use them well.

I tend not to write things without illustrations, either, and, more and more, look for them before I start writing. Finding a great piece of art can really increase my motivation to get started by making me think I'd love to see it on the page.
