Agree completely with the point from your marketing career. Covers absolutely are designed to attract a certain type of reader, so much so that they can involve stereotyping (or what a publisher's ideas of those readers are, not the reality).
That's been a big issue especially with novels aimed at women, which--many critics have argued rightly--way overdo the pink covers. That subject deserves a story of its own, which a may do at some point. Thanks for the nudge to do it.
