A big challenge is that the goalposts keep shifting for what kind of online presence works best. When blogs and Twitter first caught fire, they were the place to be.

Now publishers might see TikTok or Substack as preferable--until TikTok gets banned everywhere and something else comes along. Writers really have to decide what works best for them and not try to tack into every online wind.
